June's Charity of the Month: Save-A-Pet No-Kill Shelter

Charity of the Month is the newest way Team Tizzel is helping to support some very worthy organizations. As part of this program, we will dedicate a post to a charity that we will sponsor through the month by donating Holly's training run money.

May: In May we sponsored our friend Jessica's effort to raise money for Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America Team Challenge. Our donation of $100 will be matched by a corporate matching gift (you can donate too through this link). You can still donate to her efforts here: http://www.active.com/donate/napaga14/jessawotona

We haven't shared this news on Team Tizzel yet, but we lost our dog Rufus near the end of April. He had a great long life - 15.5 years. It was pretty sudden.... He woke up in the middle of the night having issues and it just went very quickly from there. We miss our old man.

We wanted to pick a pet-based charity to honor him so we chose a local organization called Save-A-Pet. Save-A-Pet is a no-kill animal shelter serving northern Chicagoland. When we were looking for a dog this was the first place we stopped. Unfortunately at the time they did not have any dogs we connected with.
Save-A-Pet is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and one of the largest no-kill cat and dog rescues in Lake County that operates a full-time adoption center. We provide a safe haven for abused, neglected, injured, lost, or animals that have escaped euthanasia. We will never put a limit on the amount of care we will provide for an animal and we never give up on them. Thus, Save-A-Pet offers rescued dogs and cats the greatest opportunity for a second chance. We take great pride in practicing our no-kill mission and in stewarding our donors’ contributions; both of which have led to the successful adoption of over 40,000 dogs and cats.
We think they do great work and that is why we chose them for June's Charity of the Month.
